JAKARTA Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman received the Mahaputra Adipurna Star award directly from President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace, Jakarta, Monday, August 25.

This honor mark is given for Amran's services in advancing the national agricultural sector through food self-sufficiency programs, subsidies for tools and seeds for farmers, as well as controlling strategic imports.

After receiving the award, Amran expressed his gratitude and dedicated the award to Indonesian farmers. "So this is an award for Indonesian farmers given by the President of the Republic of Indonesia," he said in an official statement.

He emphasized that the award was a form of appreciation for the real contribution of agricultural people in maintaining food security, increasing strategic food production, and fighting for the interests of farmers throughout Indonesia.

Previously, Amran had also received Bintang Mahaputra Adipradana from President Joko Widodo in November 2020 and Satya Lencana Pembangunan in the Agricultural Entrepreneurs Sector from President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in 2007.

Under Amran's leadership, the Ministry of Agriculture consistently encourages increased productivity, downstream commodities, and modernization of agriculture with the use of agricultural tools and machinery (alsintan).

A number of important agricultural achievements include achieving food independence without imports of rice until August 2025 amid the global food crisis. National rice production also increased significantly from 30.62 million tons in 2024 to 33.8'35.6 million tons in 2025, according to FAO, USDA, and BPS data.

Government rice reserves even broke the record high in the last 57 years, reaching 4.2 million tonnes, much larger than last year's stock of only about 1 million tonnes.

"We will continue to work hard to ensure that Indonesia's food is sufficient, sovereign, and able to prosper farmers," he said.

Apart from Amran, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono also received the Bintang Mahaputera Pratama award for his services to strengthen food security programs and increase support for farmers through access to fertilizers and production facilities.
