PANGKALPINANG - PT Timah Tbk (TINS) received support from President Prabowo Subianto to develop rare earth metals (LTJ) or rare earth eLEmets (REE) which are followed-up minerals in tin.
Director of Business Development of PT Timah Suhendra Yusuf Ratuprawiranegara said that he and the TINS board of directors received an invitation to attend a limited meeting (ratas) with Prabowo at his home in Hambalang, last Tuesday, August 19.
"Alhamdulillah, last Tuesday I accompanied the President Director, summoned by the President in Hambalang after meeting with several ministers, especially in relation to discussing energy and mining. One of the things discussed is how in the future Indonesia will focus on processing REE," he said, quoted Monday, August 25.
Suhendra said, PT Timah was directed to develop the monast contained in tin. This military will be useful for nuclear power plants (PLTN).
"And that's the source in lead. Monasit. So, the basis of REE, right, is monasit," he continued.
To develop LTJ, Suhendra ensured that PT Timah opened up opportunities for cooperation both with the private sector and qualified experts in its fields, including in terms of technology.
He added that the LTJ project had actually been developed for a long time until it entered the pilot project stage which was carried out in Tanjung Snake, West Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province.
In terms of supply, Suhendra admitted that PT Timah has sufficient supply of up to 50 kg per day for production, but the company actually stumbled on the quality of compound content that did not meet the required requirements.

"There are requirements if I'm not mistaken, it is at 50 ppm for the content of the phosphate, while what is done by PT Timah is still above that, so it does not meet the requirements," he explained.
Meanwhile, regarding monasit deposits, Hendra admitted that he was not worried. The reason is, as long as tin mining is still ongoing, the company can still get the supply of monasit.
"While there are people still mining lead, it is still there, unless there is no more mining lead. So, for me no issue," he said.
