JAKARTA - Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP), Maruarar Sirait, said that subsidized houses are the most concrete solution in overcoming the backlog of homeownership in Indonesia, which currently reaches 9.9 million units.
He conveyed this at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the addition of FLPP Quota between the Ministry of PKP and PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BRI, in Jakarta, Tuesday, August 5.
"I have also conveyed it in a Cabinet Meeting, to face a backlog of 9.9 million, after I learned, there is no better program than a subsidized house," he said.
He revealed that for the first time in history, the government has provided a quota of 350,000 subsidized houses whose funds have been allocated.
"We are 9.9 million this year, the first time in Indonesian history there are 350,000 quotas that already have money," continued Maruarar.
As part of the target, BRI has received a FLPP quota of 25,000 units for this year.
However, seeing BRI's performance which was considered very good in distributing subsidized houses,
Maruarar proposed adding a quota of 10,000 units, bringing the total to 35,000 units.
"I'm sure that Mr. 25,000 will be exceeded. If I may, I ask for a little more, add another 10,000, so 35,000. If it's at BRI it's small," he suggested to BRI President Director Hery Gunardi.

In addition, Maruarar also highlighted BRI's low non-performing loan (NPL) ratio for the subsidized housing segment of only 1.1 percent, lower than other financing institutions which could reach 1.5 percent.
"This means that BRI NPL is very low for subsidized houses. The constituents are small communities, you have walked, including the distribution height (FLPP) until now, the NPL is only 1.1 percent," he said.
The Minister of PKP also encouraged BRI to form a special division of strong housing. According to him, BRI has great potential because it already has a wide ecosystem in the MSME sector and micro financing.
