JAKARTA - The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) guarantees that the price of fresh beef in the market will not be more than IDR 130 thousand per kilogram (kg) ahead of Eid Al-Fitr 2021. As is known, beef prices have consistently risen from before Ramadan to date.

The Director General of Domestic Trade, Oke Nurwan, said that his party had collaborated with the Indonesian Meat Traders Association or APDI to carry out market operations to maintain price stability at the consumer level.

Oke said that from the monitoring conducted by his party, it was found that the average price of beef was IDR 120 thousand to IDR 150 thousand per kilogram (kg). To avoid prices from moving wildly, the Ministry of Trade and APDI supply frozen meat to the market. The goal is to provide alternative options.

"So we limit the price of fresh beef to Rp130,000 and the public has also been given an alternative to get frozen meat at the current price, which can be ascertained at the level of Rp.85,000," he said in a virtual discussion, Friday, May 7.

Meanwhile, the market price of beef increases during Ramadan until Eid, when the price of other commodities has decreased.

Based on the National Strategic Food Price Information Center on Friday, May 7, the price of beef in DKI Jakarta is IDR 146,650. Meanwhile, the price of beef in West Java is IDR 135,650.

Meanwhile, the stock availability of beef in Jabodetabek and Bandung Raya at the end of May is predicted to reach 65,907 tons. With a demand of 21,827, it is certain that beef stock will still experience a surplus of 44,080 tons.

Oke said, his party also mobilized local cattle to consumption centers. The goal is to maintain price stability.

"We are talking with the office in charge of livestock in the district / city to monitor where there are available cows. For example, in Lamongan there are around 114,000, in Malang 243,000, in Belora 267,000, in Rembang 137,000," he said.

"In an effort to fulfill this beef for fasting and Eid, we have also assigned PT Berdikari BUMN to make partnerships with other breeders, especially in East and Central Java, to supply the Jabotabek area," he continued.
