JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Agriculture (Wamentan) Sudaryono said the government is taking strategic steps to ensure the availability of subsidized fertilizers amid a surge in the price of non-subsidized fertilizers in the global market.
This statement responds to concerns by farmers over the high cost of production due to increasingly uncontrolled fertilizer prices.
The government's new policy under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto, he continued, provides certainty for farmers that subsidized fertilizers will be available in adequate quantities without being limited by the budget.
"President Prabowo has decided that for the procurement of fertilizers in the interest of farmers throughout Indonesia, subsidy fertilizers are not based on the budget, but based on volume," he said in his statement, quoted on Monday, July 28.
He explained that the price of fertilizer rose because the world conditions were unstable. Starting from conflicts between countries, rising natural gas prices, to fertilizer-producing countries that limit their exports.
"So, the price of raw materials in the world going up or down is not a problem, because the budget will adjust to the volume given to farmers. Thus, guarantees for obtaining subsidized fertilizer in sufficient quantities or volume have become the government's commitment," explained Sudaryono.
He also ensured that the Ministry of Agriculture together with PT Pupuk Indonesia had prepared concrete and strategic steps to deal with this situation.
"For that, farmers don't need to panic. The government has been monitoring this condition since the beginning of the year, and we are moving quickly to secure domestic fertilizer stocks. We are strengthening domestic production, improving distribution, and ensuring subsidized fertilizers can reach the hands of farmers who really need it," said Sudaryono.

Sudaryono said the government has now encouraged the diversification of fertilizer raw materials, not only depending on one or two countries.
Facing the main planting season in the second half of 2025, the government targets price stability and the availability of fertilizers as a top priority.
"We want to make sure farmers can keep planting without being burdened by the surge in fertilizer prices. Food production must continue," said Sudaryono.
