JAKARTA - Member of Commission IX DPR RI, Netty Prasetiyani stated that the government needs to anticipate potential crowds in markets and malls or shopping centers ahead of Eid to avoid a spike in COVID-19 cases.

"Prepare sufficient officers to regulate, not to let the crowd be left alone. We don't want to harvest cases after Eid," said Netty Prasetiyani in a written statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Friday, May 7.

According to him, markets and malls are crowded with people, but most of them ignore health protocols. For that, he said, the central and local governments must coordinate to monitor the implementation of prokes in public places.

Netty is of the opinion that the public's interest to shop for this year's Eid is very big, as if the release after last year's Eid al-Fitr people are still holding back.

"One of the triggers of the increase in cases in India is because thousands of people are swimming in the Kumbh Mela festival and the condition is similar to the booming visitors to markets and malls in the country," said Netty.

Netty also reminded the government about the potential for increased community tourism activities during the Eid holidays. This, according to him, is because people who are prohibited from going home are likely to run to tourist attractions opened by the government.

"The local government has to do extra work to oversee the implementation of the prokes. This must really be prepared if we don't want tourist clusters," he said.

Regarding the tourism sector, previously the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, reminded managers of tourist attractions in various regions to carry out strict health protocols so that the COVID-19 number does not increase after Eid.

"Those who violate are closed," Sandiaga Uno said in a release in Jakarta, Wednesday, May 5.

Sandiaga reminded the importance of implementing strict health protocols, especially during the Idul Fitri holidays which could potentially cause crowds in various places, both households, tourist attractions and entertainment venues.

He said he did not want Indonesia to experience the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, as is currently hitting India.

"The President reminded us that every holiday and this big movement in the midst of society triggers an increase in the transmission of COVID-19. Last year's Eid Al-Fitr holidays rose 93 percent. Nataru holidays (New Year's Christmas) rose 119 percent. The Prophet's Birthday rose 95 percent, "he said.

Sandi added that his party is aggressively educating as well as disseminating the Cleanliness, Health, Safety and Environment Sustainability (CHSE) program towards a condition which he calls better normal. The CHSE, he added, is a guide for various activities such as rafting, golf, meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) and so on, with strict implementation of prokes.
