JAKARTA - Head of the Halal Product Guarantee Administration (BPJPH) Ahmad Haikal Hasan said that his party lacked an English-capable halal auditor. It is known that the auditor is tasked with checking the halal standards for food products from abroad to enter Indonesia.

This was conveyed by Haikal during a Working Meeting (Raker) with Commission VIII of the DPR RI at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, July 14.

"The number of auditors is still very minimal, especially since auditors with good English skills," said Haikal.

Haikal admitted that he often received complaints from abroad because halal auditors did not come. He often conveyed that the halal auditor was handling other audits.

"We often get complaints from abroad, 'how come the auditors' because there are minimal auditors with English skills. So be patient, wait, be patient, wait, that's it," he said.

According to Haikal, the lack of an English-capable halal auditor has hampered meat imports from Australia. In fact, currently the domestic demand for meat reaches 650,000 tons per year.

"In Australia, we only visited it yesterday, there were those who waited for up to a year because the halal auditors were not yet available, there were other tasks," said Haikal.

"This hampers the 650,000 tons of meat we need in a year. To date, only 120,000 tons are available from Australia itself", he concluded.
