JAKARTA - PT Pertamina (Persero) will ensure that fuel and crude that will be imported from the United States (US) must comply with the specifications and technical details of oil refineries in Indonesia.
This answered criticism from some energy observers who doubted Indonesia's decision to shift imports from Singapore to the United States.
Pertamina's Vice President of Corporate Communication Fadjar Djoko Santoso stated that the fuel specifications were one of Pertamina's considerations in the shift impo study process.
"It must be ensured accordingly because why import something that is not in accordance with the specifications, so we will review it comprehensively," he told the media crew when met after the Socialization of the 2025 Pertamina Journalism Award, Tuesday, June 17.
Fadjar detailed that the things that became the subject of Pertamina's study in shifting included the type of crude, distance and travel time of tankers, before being submitted to the government for consideration.
However, Fadjar did not reveal the extent of the study process that had been carried out by this state-owned oil and gas company. Moreover, he said, Pertamina was still waiting for a legal umbrella from the government before the import shifting process was carried out.
"We also need a legal (payung) import policy from the government in the form of regulations, so when the study is complete and regulations will also be issued by the new government, we can execute it," continued Fadjar.

Previously, Pertamina's President Director, Simon Aloysius Mantiri, said that there were several risks that Pertamina had to face if later the import activities of fuel and LPG were transferred to the US, including in terms of distance and longer delivery times from the United States, namely around 40 days compared to supply sources from the Middle East or Asian countries.
To overcome this problem, Simon also asked for support in the form of a legal umbrella, both through Presidential Regulations and Ministerial Regulations as the basis for implementing energy supply cooperation for Pertamina from the US.
"If there are problems with weather factors such as storms or fog, it will have a direct impact on national stock resilience," Simon continued.
