Chairman of Commission XII DPR RI Bambang Patijaya emphasized the importance of handling the nickel mining issue in Raja Ampat being carried out in a measured and objective manner.

"This polemic has not been resolved. So, let's place this problem proportionally and solve it through an accountable mechanism, not an emotional narrative," said Bambang as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, June 9.

The head of the commission in charge of energy and mineral resources, the environment, and investment said mining activities in Raja Ampat were of national concern following the potential environmental impacts caused.

On the other hand, the process of clarification and verification by the government is still ongoing to ensure the situation in the field is in accordance with regulations and environmental protection standards.

"What is needed now is concrete steps that are solution, not activities that actually add to the noise," said Bambang.

According to him, until now the situation in the field is still in the verification and objectivization stage.

Therefore, all parties are asked to refrain from forming premature opinions that can deepen negative perceptions of the area known as one of Indonesia's ecotourism icons.

Bambang also appreciated the quick steps taken by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, who had directly reviewed mining operations and decided to temporarily suspend it as a form of caution.

However, he emphasized, the work of one ministry is not enough. Comprehensive settlement requires cross-ministerial cooperation, including the Ministry of Environment, local governments, and stakeholders in the Southwest Papua region.

"The government must be present as a solid unit. Do not appear as if traveling alone. We need collective work with a technocratic approach, based on data, field facts, and credible analysis," said Bambang.

"Our focus is to ensure that the environment is maintained, the community gets justice, and the industrial process runs according to the legal corridor," he added.
