BANDUNG - PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN) shows its strong commitment to supporting a green economy and sustainable development in Indonesia. As part of the implementation of Asta Cita Presiden Prabowo Subianto, BTN targets the construction of 10,000 low-emission housing units (RRE) by 2025.

To achieve this ambitious target, BTN proactively brings together environmentally friendly building material producers from MSMEs with housing developers. This initiative is a strategic step for BTN to build 150,000 units of Low Emission Homes by 2029, with a target of using environmentally friendly materials of at least 15% in each unit starting in 2025.

Sustainable Housing Solutions: Reduce Emissions And Waste

Director of Risk Management of BTN, Setiyo Wibowo, emphasized the urgency to overcome climate change which has already been felt in Indonesia. "This is BTN's effort to support Asta Cita Mr. President Prabowo Subianto to create a green economy, including from the sustainable housing sector," said Setiyo in the Socialization of Low Emission Houses in Bandung, Wednesday (4/6). "Hopefully there will be 10,000 low-emission houses that will be our stepping stone together for the good of our earth."

The increase in the number of low-emission houses is also in line with the Indonesian government's target to reduce the increase in the earth's temperature below 1.5 degC and achieve net zero emissions by 2060. The impact of climate change, such as irregular rainy seasons and sea level rise, has affected the food supply chain and other economic sectors. Therefore, BTN, as an economic driver, is trying to actively support the development of low-emission houses for sustainable economic growth.

Positive Impact Of Low-Emissions House BTN

By the end of 2024, BTN has collaborated with 8 developers who have started implementing 10% of environmentally friendly materials in the construction of 1,367 housing units. Setiyo revealed that if the target of 150,000 low-emission housing units is achieved, this initiative will result in a reduction of plastic waste by more than 2.2 million kilograms (equivalent to 1.3 billion packs of instant noodles) and a reduction of 2,425 tons of carbon emissions (equivalently planting 110,000 trees).

"Through this initiative, BTN shows its commitment not only to providing affordable and habitable housing access, but also to encourage a low-emission lifestyle and sustainable economic growth for Indonesia," concluded Setiyo.
