JAKARTA - The process of returning funds or refunding the purchase of stalled houses belonging to Meikarta consumers is ongoing.

Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait (Ara) verified along with 13 consumers who had received the refund.

The total of the refunds to the 13 consumers reached Rp3.5 billion.

Ara also appreciated the boss of Lippo Group, the parent company of PT Mahkota Sentosa Utama (MSU), James Riady, who managed to complete the refund of the first 13 consumers earlier than the time limit given.

"I give my appreciation to James Riady who kept his promise to return consumer funds. If in the first mediation process the agreement was to return the funds for three months, it could actually be done in less than a month," said Ara as quoted from his written statement, Friday, May 23.

However, the total refund has not targeted all consumers. In fact, the amount is only about 11 percent of the total 124 whistleblowers with a total refund of IDR 30 billion.

Then, Ara apologized because Lippo Group had not been able to pay refunds to all Meikarta consumers.

"The process of returning Meikarta's consumer funds is faster than it should be, although not all consumers have returned their funds. I have tried to help Meikarta's father and mother, sorry if I haven't been able to make myself happy because I as Minister still have a lot of shortcomings and will give my best," he said.

Later, Ara said, his party will create an information system that can be accessed by Meikarta consumers, including media crews who want to get information about the process of returning funds openly.

According to Ara, this is in accordance with the direction of President Prabowo Subianto who wants the Meikarta case to be resolved soon.

For this reason, his party will openly help all Meikarta consumers to get their rights.

"The Meikarta consumer has the right to know the information on the refund and the documents that must be completed. This is part of education and transparency of information on the handling of public complaints in the housing sector," said Ara.

"I received an order from President Prabowo Subianto to immediately resolve this Meikarta issue," he continued.

Meanwhile, Lippo Group CEO James Riady admitted that he was ready to return Meikarta's consumer funds if all the files needed were complete.

"Thank you for the support of the Minister of PKP. I make sure that if all the complete files are complete, we will finish the refund," he said.
