Khofifah Yakin East Java Becomes The Front In Realizing Sugar Self-Sufficiency

JAKARTA - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa is optimistic that the local province will be able to be at the forefront of the step of realizing self-sufficiency for sugar commodities.

"What has become the hope and plan of President Prabowo Subianto, East Java is ready to be at the forefront," said Khofifah in Batu City, East Java, quoted by Antara, Sunday, April 27.

Khofifah said that self-confidence in making East Java at the forefront of realizing self-sufficiency in sugar is not without reason, because currently the leadership area has a national amount of sugar production above the national average.

"From the calculation, it can be seen that the East Java strength per 1 hectare can produce 13 tons of sugar. Meanwhile, the national average is five tons," he said.

In fact, with various efforts to accelerate and collaborate, it is possible for sugar self-sufficiency in East Java to be achieved in the near future.

"This year, God willing, sugar self-sufficiency can be realized," he said.

Therefore, the Governor of East Java for two periods emphasized that his leadership government has prepared a number of programs as part of pursuing sugar self-sufficiency, namely by providing space for sugarcane farmers from young people to manage land.

His party provides 50 hectares of land to be managed by young people from East Java.

"Now an area is provided for young people in East Java, 50 hectares for 10 young people with certain qualifications," he said.

Each group of sugarcane farmers from among young people gets an area of five hectares.

"We have tested how 50 hectares can be managed by 10 young people, each five hectares in a combination of farmer or Gapoktan groups," he said.

This method is applied as a provision of forums for young people to be involved in the process of advancing the nation.

"God willing, this will be a pioneer in how to bring young people to realize sugar self-sufficiency," said Khofifah.
