JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI recorded a significant increase in the sale of long-distance train tickets (KAJJ) during the long holiday period commemorating Easter.

A total of 846,791 tickets have been sold as of Monday, April 21 at 11.08 WIB.

KAI Vice President Public Relations Anne Purba said that this figure is equivalent to 102 percent of the total seating capacity provided, namely 831,297 seats for the period 17 to 21 April 2025.

Anne said the peak sales occurred on Sunday, April 20 with a total of 209,167 tickets sold, surpassing the day's capacity of 170,365 seats. This figure reflects the occupancy rate of 123 percent.

"We really appreciate the enthusiasm of the people who make trains the first choice to travel during this long holiday," he said in an official statement, Tuesday, April 22.

Anne said the increase in customer numbers was also seen consistently in the last four days. On April 17, 2025, it was recorded that 186,103 customers or 113 percent of the 164,138 seats were recorded.

Meanwhile, on April 18, the customer volume reached 171,312 people or 101 percent of the 169,742 seats. Meanwhile, on April 19, there were 154,313 customers or the equivalent of 91 percent of the 170,220 seat capacity.

One of the services in the spotlight is the Compartement Train, which recorded occupancy of up to 118 percent. From the capacity of 320 seats, this service is used by 376 customers," he said.

Anne said this was possible thanks to a flexible travel pattern system, where one seat can be used by more than one customer as it goes up and down at various stations.

We see people's travel patterns getting more dynamic. Many customers take advantage of intercity travel more flexibly, so one seat can be used by some customers in a series of trips, "explained Anne.

Not only in premium classes, economic train services have also been a favorite during this period. With affordable rates and continuously improved services, economic class occupancy reached 114 percent, with 629,032 customers out of a total of 553,658 available seats.

"To anticipate the surge in demand, KAI operates additional trains on favorite routes," he said.

In order to speed up services and reduce queues, KAI has implemented a Face Recognition Boarding Gate at 21 major stations.

This innovation allows customers to go directly to the platform without the need to show a physical ticket or identity, simply with facial scanning.

We are committed to continuing to provide safe, comfortable, and modern services. Face recognition technology is part of our efforts to improve customer experience as a whole," added Anne.
