JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) recorded that it had dispatched 2,015,447 travelers during the period of transporting the Eid Al-Fitr 2025/1446 Hijri homecoming period, as of March 21-31, 2025.
"Based on cumulative data on March 21, 2025 at 14.00 WIB, 2,015,447 customers have used train services," said KAI Vice President Public Relations Anne Purba confirmed by Antara in Jakarta, Monday.
Anne said that this number increased by 8 percent compared to the same period in 2024 which was recorded at 1,873,254 travelers.
KAI noted that the smooth flow of Lebaran 2025 homecoming was due to the Work From Anywhere (WFA) policy implemented by the government since March 24, 2025. This policy allows the movement of passengers to be more evenly distributed, so that the density is not only concentrated on certain dates.
"Since the WFA policy was implemented on March 24, 2025, KAI has recorded an increase in passenger movements ahead of the policy," said Anne.
On March 21, 2025, 170,556 passengers boarded the train, the next day March 22, 2025, there was an increase to 174,505 passengers, then the peak occurred on March 23, 2025, with a figure of 183,123 passengers.
Anne added that the data shows that the initial peak of passenger movement occurred on March 23, 2025, or the day before WFA began, with 183,123 passengers.
After that, the number of passengers remained stable without extreme spikes, proving that this policy was effective in distributing travel more evenly.

Anne said that overall the density of travelers during the highest Eid transportation period occurred on D-3 to D-1 Lebaran, with data on 27 March 2025 (H-4) 202,202 passengers; 28 March 2025 (D-3) 215,564 passengers; and 29 March 2025 (D-2) 214,151 passengers.
However, when compared to previous years, the density was more manageable because there was no sudden spike on certain days. This shows that the WFA policy contributes to equitable distribution of homecoming flows with trains.
Along with the implementation of the WFA policy, Anne said, the movement of homecoming has become more distributed. Travelers can choose a more flexible travel time, so that density does not only occur on one or two specific days.
"This shows that the WFA policy has contributed positively to the smooth flow of homecoming this year," said Anne.
Furthermore, Anne said that until March 31, 2025 at 14.00 WIB, 3,538,738 tickets had been sold or 77 percent of the total capacity provided.
Of these, long-distance train tickets sold reached 3,130,477 tickets with an occupancy rate of 91 percent. Meanwhile, local trains sold 408,261 tickets or 36 percent of the available capacity.
"This success cannot be separated from KAI's efforts to provide safe, comfortable, and efficient transportation services for the community," said Anne.
KAI will continue to innovate in the face of the upcoming homecoming season with various strategies, including optimizing travel schedules and improving services for customers.
