National Strike Truck Entrepreneurs Starting Tomorrow, Port Business Affected?

JAKARTA - Truckers who are members of the Indonesian Truck Entrepreneurs Association (Aptrindo) will carry out a national strike.

This action is to protest against the policy of limiting the operational activities of goods transport trucks during the Lebaran 2025 holiday period.

The strike action of businessmen who are members of Aprindo will be carried out for two days, from Thursday, March 20 to Friday, March 21.

Then, will the port business be affected by this strike?

President Director of PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok (PTP Nonpetikes) Indra Hidayat Sani said, if the national strike carried out by truck entrepreneurs occurs, it will have an impact on port operations. Especially in field management, the accumulation of goods.

"(The strike action) will have an impact on PTP. If the goods are not issued while the ship continues to arrive, we cannot say the ship is waiting until the goods are out," said Indra in Jakarta, Wednesday, March 19.

"It means that we PTP must be smart in managing the field (construction of goods). Developing the cargo in the field so that the incoming ships can be dismantled," he continued.

Indra said that if the ship's cargo had not yet entered the port while the strike action of the truck entrepreneurs had already taken place, then there would be no truck that had packed the goods.

Furthermore, Indra said that if there were no delivery trucks operating, it was feared that this would have an impact not only on ports but also on the Indonesian economy.

"We are worried that if the ship's cargo has not yet been entered, because the truck is not there. Now this may be what it is, I'm worried that it will have an impact not only on the port, yes, maybe for the Indonesian economy," said Indra.

According to Indra, this condition could be very unfavorable for PTP Non-Census.

Moreover, starting March 24, the company has been affected by the policy of restricting trucks from crossing toll roads. Because, there will be many trucks stuck at the port.

At the same time, continued Indra, PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) as the holding company has set a 50 percent discount policy for the cost of accumulation of goods from March 24 to April 6.

"This (50 percent discount policy) as far as I know applies to all of them. Not only container items, but also non-market goods. So, what impact will it have on PTP? If it is discounted, yes, we have less income," he said.

Even so, Indra ensured that PTP Non-Census would continue to provide excellent service at the port during the Eid 2025 transportation period.

"We have to be smart in compiling the cargo in the field. So, we can dismantle the ships that come," he explained.
