JAKARTA - The government plans to procure 180,000 tons of beef imports this year. This import is to meet the needs of beef during fasting and Eid 2025.
Head of the Nasionl Food Agency, Arief Prasetyo Adi, explained that the assignment to import beef was the result of a limited meeting (ratas) 2024 for procurement in 2025.
"It has been decided to 180,000 tons. The meat can be frozen, or will it be. If we say import meat, it can be feeded, there will be calculations later, how much to become carkas, how much to be meat, it has a calculation," said Arief when met at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Food, Graha Mandiri, Wednesday, January 22.
Furthermore, Arief said the sources of beef imports usually come from Australia and New Zealand. However, the decision from which countries to import will be re-discussed at a meeting of the relevant Ministries/Institutions.
