Government Reveals 1,780,000.000 Tons Of Carbon Unit CO2e Has Been Authorized

JAKARTA - Minister of Environment and Head of the Environmental Control Agency (BPLH) Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said that his party had issued 5 million tons of CO2 equivalent or tCO2e for the National Registration System Certificate for Climate Change Control (SRN-PPI). However, only 1.78 million tCO2e SRN-PPI were marketed.

"In today's launching, there is a volume of carbon trading of up to 1,780,000.000 tons of CO2 originating from the energy sector," he said at a press conference on International Carbon Trading Inauguration, Monday, January 20.

However, in an effort to build a carbon ecosystem that is transparent, with integrity, inclusive, and fair, the Government of Indonesia has strengthened important elements in the carbon ecosystem, which includes strengthening the National Register System (SRN), Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV), Certificate for Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions (SPE-GHG) and Authorization and Corresponding Adjustment (CA) in foreign carbon trading.

Hanif said that through important elements in the carbon ecosystem, it can be ascertained that the Emission Reduction Certificate (SPE) produced by Indonesia has been confirmed to be a SPE that has high integrity.

The carbon units that have been authorized are 1,780,000.000 tons of CO2e originating from the energy sector (Operation of the New Natural Gas Fuel Plant PLTGU Priok Block 4, Conversion from Single Cycle to Combined Cycle (Add On) PLTGU Grati Block 2, Operation of the Mount Wugul Minihydro Water Power Plant (PLTM), Operation of the PLTGU PLTGU PJB Muara Karang Block 3, and Conversion from Single Cycle Generator to Combined Cycle Block 2 PLN NP UP Muara Tawar.

Hanif conveyed that related to carbon unit trading through IDX Carbon, the National Climate Change Control Registribution System (SRN PPI) managed by KLH/BPLH has interacted with the IDX Carbon trading system supervised by the OJK.

"The Indonesian government guarantees that every certificate issued for foreign carbon trading has been ratified/authorized as a safeguarding effort against the occurrence of double accounts, double payments, and double claims," he said.

On the same occasion, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Mahendra Siregar greatly appreciated the launch of carbon emission reduction products so that they are expected to invite transactions and investments from international parties.

According to Mahendra, his party also welcomes and is ready to support all steps taken by other ministries and institutions for carbon emission reduction products to be traded on the Carbon Exchange.
