Industrial Sustainability Becomes Priority, PGN Prepares Alternative Gas Sources

JAKARTA - PT PGN Tbk is committed to supporting energy sustainability for the national industry by ensuring reliable and sustainable gas supply. Responding to the challenges of providing pipeline gas in several strategic areas, such as central Sumatra, southern Sumatra, Lampung, and western Java, PGN is actively looking for new pipeline gas supply sources as well as alternative gas supply solutions from domestic LNG regasification, such as those from Tangguh, Bontang, and Donggiyango.

PGN seeks to maintain national energy sustainability by balancing the needs and availability of natural gas. In the midst of a decline in pipeline gas supply from a number of main sources, gas regasification is an effective alternative solution to ensure customers continue to get the energy supply needed," said PGN Corporate Secretary, Fajriyah Usman, in Jakarta, Monday, January 6.

Since mid-2024, PGN has started to introduce LNG regasification gas supply with 100 percent distribution to customers over 3 domestic LNG allocation cargoes from the Government.

"We estimate that the challenge of availability of pipeline gas supply will occur in 2025, making it very possible that the portion of regasification gas supply will increase to meet industrial needs," explained Fajriyah.

For this reason, PGN continues to establish intensive communication with the government, regulators, and other stakeholders so that it can ensure strategic decisions that can strengthen energy sustainability and the national industry.

Gas regasification does have different characteristics and cost structures from pipe gases. However, PGN continues to strive to provide innovative solutions to maintain economic balance and customer competitiveness.

"PGN will continue to play an active role in supporting national energy security, as well as providing sustainable solutions for the industry through natural gas from LNG regasification results," concluded Fajriyah.
