PHR Collaborates With EMP Gandewa, Boosts Production 12 Times South Excavation Field

JAKARTA - Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) cooperates with EMP Energi Gandewa, a subsidiary of PT Energi Mega Persada Tbk. to significantly boost oil production in Menggala South Field.

Through this collaboration, the two latest development wells, MESO#16 and MESO#17, which began to produce on November 22 and 29, 2024, managed to drain oil up to 3938 barrels per day. This amount brings the total increase in field production by 12 times from the previous production.

PHR's UPstream Business EVP, Andre Wijanarko, said that this success could not be separated from the application of the unitization concept, where the two companies worked together in managing the field that was geologicalally connected even though they were in different working areas.

"This success proves that with strong collaboration and proper use of technology, we are able to increase oil production in mature fields even though," he said in a statement to the media, Monday, December 2.

Head of SKK Migas Sumbagut, Rikky Rahmat Firdaus, appreciated this achievement. According to him, the unitization concept applied in Menggala South Field is a strategic step to optimize oil and gas production in Indonesia.

"This not only increases production efficiency, but also maximizes reserve potential. We express our appreciation for the good performance and collaboration between PHR WK Rokan and EMP Gandewa," explained Rikky.

This achievement is the result of the in-depth evaluation and technological innovation carried out by PHR. By utilizing 3D seismic data that was reprocessed using the latest technology, the PHR geoscience team managed to identify potential oil reserves that had not previously been optimally worked on.

Menggala South Field was first discovered and started production in 1973. This field is a unitization field located in two concession areas belonging to PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (Blok Rokan) and PT Energi Mega Persada Gandewa (Blok Siak).

For decades, this field will continue to be developed until 2009. However, after that, there will be no more new drilling activities until 2024. Through the collaboration of PHR and PT EMP Gandewa as well as the appropriate application of the latest technology, Menggala South Field is now showing its great production potential to further boost the achievement of national oil production.
