Bulog Will Be Under The President, Government Opens Option To Change Law

JAKARTA - The government plans to carry out institutional transformations in Perum Bulog.

Later, Bulog will no longer have the status of a state-owned enterprise (BUMN) but become an autonomous body under the President.

To realize it, the government also opens the option of changing the law (UU).

Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs (Menko Pangan) Zulkifli Hasan revealed the latest news in the process of Bulog's transformation.

He said the basis for the rules was one of the study points discussed at the Limited Coordination Meeting of the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs which was held today.

Several ministries/agencies that participated in the Bulog Transformation Coordination Meeting included the Coordinating Ministry for Food, Ministry of SOEs, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Trade, Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, Ministry of PAN RB, to the Ministry of Finance.

The man who is familiarly called Zulhas said that it was necessary to change Bulog's institution from a state-owned company to an autonomous institution under the President.

In the meeting, continued Zulhas, there were proposals to issue a new Presidential Regulation (Perpres) or change the law (UU).

"Antara lain misalnya ini apakah transformasi Bulog ini melalui perpres atau mengubah undang-undang," ujarnya usai Rapat Koordinasi Terbatas Kementerian Koordinator Bidang Pangan di Jakarta, Jumat, 29 November.

Zulhas said that if the scheme decided was the issuance of the Presidential Decree, then the process would be much shorter than changing the contents of the law.

"Earlier, if it was fast, the Presidential Regulation, if the law took a long time," he explained.

According to Zulhas, the discussion of this legal basis will be carried out in several agencies related to Bulog. Even so, Zulhas was reluctant to reveal when this transformation process could be completed.

"When will it be finished? The sooner the better," he said.

Previously, Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs (Menko Pangan) Zulkifli Hasan said that Perum Bulog's institutional transformation into an automomous body had received the blessing of President Prabowo Subianto.

The man who is familiarly called Zulhas emphasized that institutional transformation is an important thing. This is because this step is taken to realize food self-sufficiency in 2027.

"I report the need for Bulog's transformation. We will continue the meeting with related parties to formulate, make a concept regarding the transformation of Bulog and Mr. President at that time decide please continue," said Zulhas after the Limited Coordination Meeting of the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs in Jakarta, Friday, November 29.
