House Of Representatives Member Golkar Faction: Yogyakarta International Airport Deserves To Be A Role Model For Earthquake Resistant

JAKARTA - Member of Commission V DPR RI Muhammad Fauzi said Yogyakarta International Airport in Kulon Progo deserves to be a role model because it has an earthquake-resistant concept and a good disaster mitigation plan.

"The disaster mitigation prepared by this airport is quite complete, among which is the green belt area for tsunami mitigation", said Muhammad Fauzi quoted from Antara, Monday, April 12.

He said, the building of Yogyakarta International Airport is also designed to withstand earthquakes with a magnitude of 8.8, which is the first in Indonesia.

He also suggested that in anticipation of the eruption of Mount Merapi, the design of the airport roof frame has also been prepared to withstand volcanic ash as thick as 5 cm.

"Indonesia as a disaster-prone country needs to prepare public facilities related to various aspects, including mitigation issues", he said.

Fauzi and other Members of Commission V of the House of Representatives have made a working visit in Kulon Progo, D.I.Yogyakarta Province, April 10, 2021. Fauzi hopes Kulon Progo Airport can continue to grow and serve more domestic and foreign flight routes.

"It's an asset of the nation and we hope from the airport there will be a lot of income for the country that can be brought in", he concluded.

Meanwhile, Member of Commission V DPR RI Sukamto requested that the construction of the Yogyakarta Airport Railway infrastructure can be accelerated.

"I encourage that the construction project of Yogyakarta Airport Railway which is a mode of transportation supporting Yogyakarta Airport can be accelerated. So that its existence can be a solution to the problem of access to and from Yogyakarta International Airport", said Sukamto.

Previously, the Ministry of Transportation targeted a railway flyover connecting Kedundang Station to Yogyakarta International Airport (BIY) along 5.3 kilometers of commercial operation by mid-August 2021.

"Currently the construction of the railway flyover continues and progress has reached 86 percent", Director of Railway Infrastructure Directorate General of Railways Heru Wisnu Prabowo told the press in Solo, Central Java, Tuesday, April 6.

According to him, the existence of a railway flyover to BIY in Kulon Progo is very important and strategic to accelerate the journey to and from Yogyakarta.

Currently, he said, if using a car via the highway from Yogyakarta can be reached within 1.5 hours.

"But later if using the train only 45 minutes. So it's much more efficient in terms of time", he said.
