KAI Transports 4.8 Million Tons Of Containers Until October 2024

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI recorded an increase in freight rail transportation in the form of containers from January to October 2024.

During this period, KAI managed to transport 4,849,223 tons of containers, an increase of 27.65 percent compared to the previous year.

As for the same period from January to October 2023, the total number of transportations reached 3,798,764 tons.

KAI Vice President Public Relations Anne Purba said the achievement of container transportation by train shows a positive trend.

"As of October 2024, KAI has managed to transport 4,849,223 tons, it has exceeded the total transportation in the same commodity for a full year in 2023 which was recorded at 4,661,449 tons," he said in an official statement, Monday, November 18.

Anne revealed that the transportation of containers by train was spread across various areas. Including Daop 1 Jakarta, Daop 4 Semarang, Daop 8 Surabaya, and Divre I Medan.

Industry companies in North Jakarta, Bekasi, Karawang, Cilegon, Gresik, Sei Mangkei, Kuala Tanjung, Belawan, and Semarang still rely on trains for the transportation of containers. Because of its superiority in large carrying capacity and more efficient costs," said Anne.

KAI is committed to continuing to strengthen freight transport services by train, which can be the best solution to support smooth distribution of goods, reduce environmental impacts, and help overcome congestion problems that often occur due to truck transportation.

In addition to efficiency, continued Anne, the use of trains for goods transportation also has a positive impact on the environment and reduces the problem of congestion.

"Railways not only offer safer solutions, but also play an important role in reducing air pollution and road damage due to heavy vehicles," he said.

Anne said KAI is also committed to continuing to strengthen freight transport services by train, which can be the best solution to support smooth distribution of goods, reducing environmental impacts.

"As well as helping to overcome the problems of congestion that often occur due to truck transportation exceeding the striking capacity," he said.
