JAKARTA - PT Pertamina (Persero) accelerates the energy transition by developing clean energy sources through increasing the capacity of geothermal power plants.

CEO of PT Pertamina Geothermal Energi Tbk (PGEO) Julfi Hadi explained that geothermal is even capable of being the baseload of electricity sources. A stable and large source of energy through geothermal is the key in supporting 8 percent economic growth launched by the government.

"Earth heat is one of the proven sources of energy to be a baseload. We have to build it now. Moreover, with economic growth plans supported by downstream and manufacturing industries, it requires a stable and clean electricity supply. Geothermal is the answer," said Julfi, Thursday, November 14.

Julfi also said that PGEO targets Pertamina's geothermal development to reach 1.5 GW by 2030 to achieve these targets, various strategies are carried out, including investment strategies.

"This development requires an investment of up to 50 million US dollars with a calculation of the growth in geothermal power generation capacity of up to 10.5 GW," said Julfi.

To be able to make this geothermal investment attractive, Pertamina has even made a lower risk model in geothermal development. Electrical Submersible Pumps which is one of the technologies to reduce the risk of geothermal development.

"Pumps will produce increased production even in subcommercial wells as well as in power plants. Let's say in the past, developing the geothermal sector takes 10 years, now it can be developed in 5 years," said Julfi.
