The Minister Of Industry Will Prioritize The Transfer Of Import Ports To Eastern Indonesia

Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said his ministry had compiled a quick wins program to accelerate national economic growth. The priority program is the transfer of import ports or entry points for a number of commodities to Eastern Indonesia.

A number of commodities that are prioritized for the transfer program include electronics, textiles and textile products (TPT), finished clothes, footwear, cosmetics, ceramics, valves, and traditional medicines. The transfer of this imported entry route aims to protect the domestic manufacturing industry.

"The choice of commodities is not without reason, considering that these industrial sectors are prone to the invasion of cheap or illegal imported goods," Agus said in a written statement, quoted on Tuesday, November 5.

Agus has also determined areas that will become new import entry routes, namely Sorong, Bitung and Kupang. He said the transfer of import entry routes to the three regions would be the focus of the Red and White Cabinet policy.

"This is in order to secure the domestic market for domestic products while increasing logistics capacity in Indonesia," he said.

Based on VOI records, Minister of Industry Agus said that discussions regarding the transfer of entrances or entry points for imported goods to eastern Indonesia will soon be met with the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in the fourth week of August 2024.

This was conveyed by Agus after attending a Working Meeting (Raker) with Commission VII DPR RI at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, August 26.

"The material is almost finished and God willing, the day after tomorrow we will go to the President (Joko Widodo) to ask (to hold) Ratas (limited meeting)," said Agus.

He said the diversion of the entrance would be applied to seven industrial commodities, such as textiles and textile products (TPT), finished clothing, ceramics, electronic devices, beauty products, finished textiles and footwear.

"So it's not tightened. Enter Indonesia please, yes. But, for these 7 commodities we will determine the entrance through ports in eastern Indonesia," he said.

However, until Jokowi Lengser and changed leadership to President Prabowo Subianto, Ratas to discuss the proposed transfer of the imported goods port had not yet been carried out.
