JAKARTA PLN Energi Primary Indonesia (PLN EPI) affirms its commitment to supporting Indonesia's energy transition agenda through the development of green hydrogen.

At the Mutual Construction of China-Indonesia Forum 2024, PLN EPI's Director of Gas and Fuel, Rakhmad Dewanto, explained the strategic steps taken by PLN EPI to accelerate the use of green hydrogen in the national energy sector.

"PLN is committed to being at the forefront of the development of green hydrogen in Indonesia," said Rakhmad Dewanto, Friday, October 18.

Rakhmad explained that PLN EPI focuses on providing clean energy for domestic consumption, but also developing infrastructure and technology that allows Indonesia to become a global player in the green hydrogen ecosystem.

To date, PLN Group has developed several key projects related to green hydrogen, including the construction of the Green Hydrogen Plant in Kamojang, which is the first Geothermal Green Hydrogen Factory in Southeast Asia.

With a production capacity of 12 kilograms per day or 4.68 tons per year, this facility is proof of PLN's commitment to sustainable energy innovation.

This facility supplies green hydrogen to the Senayan Hydrogen Center, which supports PLN's research and development initiatives and supports clean energy needs for transportation and industry. In addition, this green hydrogen also supplies the first Hydrogen Refueling Stations (HRS) in Indonesia located in Senayan.

"Where the construction of Hydrogen Refueling Stations (HRS) is a manifestation of PLN's commitment to building a sustainable hydrogen mobility ecosystem in Indonesia. This facility supports demand for clean transportation which continues to increase by turning green hydrogen into energy that can be used for hydrogen-powered vehicles, offering a fuel-filling experience similar to conventional stations. This is part of our contribution to significantly reducing greenhouse gases," said Rakhmad.

This initiative is in line with the Indonesian Government's vision to accelerate energy transition, reduce carbon emissions, and promote the use of renewable energy. Green hydrogen is considered a long-term solution that is not only environmentally friendly but also able to meet energy needs that are increasing in the future.

In the future, PLN EPI plans to expand the capacity and application of green hydrogen. PLN EPI sees a promising future with great opportunities for the development of hydrogen-based vehicles, fuel cell generators, and greater integration with renewable energy sources such as solar power and wind.

"This project is not only a technological achievement, but also a form of our commitment to a cleaner and greener future for Indonesia," said Rakhmad.

Rakhmad emphasized the importance of collaboration to achieve this goal. Energy transition cannot be done alone. PLN EPI continues to form partnerships with various parties, both domestically and internationally, to accelerate the development of green hydrogen and create ecosystems that support the use of clean energy throughout Indonesia.

With various initiatives that have been launched, PLN EPI is optimistic that it can play a strategic role in ensuring the sustainability of primary energy in Indonesia, as well as supporting global targets to reduce carbon emissions and accelerate the transition to renewable energy.
