Batik Industry Contributes IDR 126.8 Billion For TPT Exports To Quarter II-2024

The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) noted that the contribution of the batik industry to the export value for the textile and textile product (TPT) sector to the second quarter of 2024 reached 8.33 million US dollars or around Rp126.8 billion.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Industry (Memperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita when opening the National Batik Day exhibition with the 2024 Industrial Festival with the theme 'Bangga Berbatik' which was held at the Kota Kasablanka Mall, South Jakarta, Wednesday, October 2.

"The batik industry also contributes to the export of national TPT with a value of US$8.33 million," he said.

Even so, Agus said, the performance of the textile and clothing industry nationally in the second quarter of 2024 experienced a deep contraction. This is due to the weakening demand for the export market for these products.

"As a result of the weakening demand in the export market, the export performance of the textile and clothing industry until the second quarter of 2024 experienced a consecutive contraction of 5.56 percent and 4.12 percent (yoy) compared to the same period the previous year," he said.

With this condition, he continued, it had an impact on the export of the batik industry, which contracted by 8.29 percent compared to the same period the previous year.

"On the other hand, the trend of using batik in the daily life of the younger generation of Indonesia is currently optimistic for the future of the batik industry in the domestic market," said Agus.
