Minister Basuki Complains About Managing Difficult Housing Projects, Supports The Establishment Of A Special Ministry

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono revealed the difficulty of working on housing projects. Therefore, he supports the establishment of the Housing Ministry in the era of the leadership of the next President-elect Prabowo Subianto.

Basuki said the Housing Ministry also needed to be run to support the 3 million housing unit program.

"There is no (discussion of the Ministry of Housing) yet, I think it would be good with priority programs if the (successful) 3 million houses become good," said Basuki after a Working Meeting (Raker) with Commission V of the DPR RI at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, September 18.

Basuki said, to eradicate the backlog, it was not enough just to form a housing organization. Moreover, the housing sector has a wide multiplier effect, reaching 175 industrial derivatives.

He admitted that there would be no problem if there was a breakdown between the Ministry of Housing and the Ministry of Public Works later. Basuki said that the establishment of the Ministry of Housing is believed to have a positive impact.

"So, if he (Prabowo) forms a Housing (Ministry) for me personally, it's good. Yes (to be structured), it's not easy to take care of the housing. There are 175 derivatives of industry that support this property industry," he concluded.

Based on VOI records, previously Basuki also appreciated the plan of the President and Vice President-elect Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka to form the Ministry of Housing in the upcoming government.

Basuki said, with the establishment of the Ministry of Housing, later the government could focus on housing problems in the country.

Moreover, he said, Prabowo has a program of 3 million houses in his future leadership.

"That's good, yes, in my opinion. Because he has a plan for a program of 3 million houses per year for urban, rural areas, right. So, with the Ministry of Housing that Pak Prabowo-Gibran's government will be more focused," said Basuki when met by reporters at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, September 11.

He assessed that the discourse on establishing the Ministry of Housing could also help reduce the number of housing backlogs which are currently at 9 million.

According to Basuki, the 1 million house program in the era of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) leadership has been realized.

However, he said, the number of housing backlogs has not decreased too much.
