Minister Of Transportation Discusses Changes In Fossil Avtur To Bioavtur Gradually

Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi discussed the government's plan to gradually change the use of fossil fuel avtur to Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) or bioavtur.

"We think that it will not only change the use of fossil fuels, but we will gradually increase or change it with environmentally friendly avtur," said Budi Karya Sumadi at the 2024 Asia Pacific Air Transport Forum quoting Antara.

In the series of Bali International Airshow 2024, the Minister of Transportation admitted that the government had stepped there through various talks and initiatives commanded by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment.

However, changing the use of fossil aviation fuels to SAF is not easy because it is related to technical matters, funding and marketing.

Therefore, the government is currently trying to make an economic scale for the future so that Indonesia has a place or material as a mixture of avtur so that it can become a producer not only for SAF consumers.

"Furthermore, we will start doing that in 2027 and we will finalize everything next because apart from the technology needed, the finances must also find the best point," said the Minister of Transportation.

In the forum, Indonesia stated its commitment to developing SAF, increasing financial access, and strengthening partnerships to promote SAF in the green aviation revolution.

Furthermore, the unmanned aircraft system or unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and advanced air mobility/advanced air mobility (AAM) offer new opportunities in air area management, reduce congestion, increase logistics, and cut emissions.

Indonesia's commitment is said to be in line with the agenda of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) which highlights the importance of the role of SAF and low-carbon flight fuels in reducing CO2 emissions.

Budi Karya hopes that this forum on the sidelines of the Bali International Airshow 2024 can trigger dialogue and inspire an increase in the future of integrated air space, production, and financing of SAF in order to create a greener and more sustainable aviation sector.
