Monitoring The Movement Of Indonesian Waters, Ministry Of Transportation Forms Maritime Data Integration Center

The Directorate General of Sea Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has formed a Maritime Data Integration Center (MCC) which functions as a Center for Maritime Data Integration in order to improve coordination and effectiveness of shipping safety in Indonesian waters.

"The formation of the MCC aims to become a Center for Integration of Indonesian Maritime Data, which is operated 24 hours by the Directorate General of Sea Transportation, with personnel consisting of employees of the Directorate of Kenavigasian and Employees of the Directorate of Marine and Coast Guard Units (KPLP)," said Director General of Sea Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation Antoni Arif Priadi quoting Antara.

Antoni further explained that several activities carried out at the MCC included receiving and conveying information on shipping safety or Maritime Safety Information (MSI) according to the Decree of the Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia Number KM 22 of 2024 concerning Guidelines for the Implementation of Shipping Safety Information Broadcasting (MSI).

In addition, holding online Regional Data Center (RDC) Daily Meetings, which includes Eastern Region, Central Region and Western Region, as well as making reports related to the Navigation warning & Search and Rescue (SAR) Information and other related Information Safety For Ship.

"The MCC also provides data and information on monitoring, supervision, security and shipping safety, protection of maritime environments in Indonesian waters and identifies and detects the presence of ships and ship movements in Indonesian waters and international waters for ships with Indonesian flags," he explained.

Not only that, but the MCC also carries out communication and reporting procedures in a state of emergency according to the Decree of the Director General of Sea Transportation Number KP-DJPL 549 of 2024 concerning Ship Communication and Reporting Procedures in Prosperous or Emergency Conditions in Indonesian Waters.

The MCC has coordinated the broadcasting of Shipping Safety Information and integrated with Coastal Radio Stations (SROP), Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) and NAVTEX Stations belonging to the Directorate General of Sea Transportation throughout Indonesia.

The MCC has also been integrated with data from various applications, agencies, Ministries or other institutions such as the Automatic Identification System for ship monitoring including the Satellite Automatic Identification System (AIS) and Terrestrial AIS which can be accessed through applications or I-Motion and AIS Live websites, remote tracking and identification systems (LRIT).

In addition, there is also data from BMKG which includes Weather Information from BMKG which can be accessed through the INA WIS website, Pushidrosal data including Hydrographic and Oceanographic Information, as well as the National SAR Agency Search and Rescue Operation (BASARNAS).

"To optimize the operation of the MCC, of course, support and cooperation from all relevant Ministries and Institutions in order to support the duties and functions of the MCC so that in the future we will continue to improve coordination and collaboration with related agencies," concluded Antoni.
