PT PGN Tbk cooperates with POSCO International to cooperate related to Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS).

This strategic collaboration was marked by the signing of the Joint Study Agreement (JSA) at the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (IISF) 2024 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Thursday, September 5.

This JSA is a follow-up to the signing of the MoU on July 25, 2023 between Pertamina Group and POSCO.

PGN's Director of Strategy and Business Mining Rosa Permata Sari said that for PGN, this JSA provides added value for efforts to reduce carbon emissions through carbon emission storage (CCS) in Pertamina Group's Field. In addition, as an optimization of PGN's Right of Way (ROW) transmission and the potential for industrial aggregator carbon integration in existing customers.

The opportunity to join a study with POSCO International this time is a manifestation of PGN's seriousness in the CCS project initiative and efforts to suppress carbon emissions. It is hoped that this JSA will produce a comprehensive study so that CCS technology can later be applied appropriately," explained Rosa in a statement to the media, Friday, September 13.

Joint study with Krakatau POSCO also examines the potential of other Carbon emitters. Technically, PGN together with PHE, PPI and PIS will conduct a joint study with the POSCO international group. The plan for the location of Pertamina Group's storage site has been determined, namely the Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore Northwest Java PSC (PHE ONWJ) area.

This initiative can later be a solution to efforts to achieve NZE targets for existing customers of PGN and other emitters close to PGN's infrastructure network.

For information, POSCO International is a South Korean company operating as a subsidiary of POSCO Group and is engaged in various business sectors, including steel trading, energy, oil & gas, agricultural resources, and chemicals.
