JAKARTA Pertamina Patra Niaga and PT Sojitz Indonesia have established a strategic partnership to support energy transition and reduce carbon emissions through the use of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) products, namely Pertamina Renewable Diesel.

Director of Central and Commercial Marketing of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, Maya Kusmaya said, cooperation in the use of HVO is part of Pertamina Patra Niaga's commitment to become an energy solution provider and a major partner in decarbonization in the industrial sector and is outlined through the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Director of Central and Commercial Marketing of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, Maya Kusmaya and CEO of PT Sojitz Indonesia, Seiji Itagani in Bali on Tuesday (10/9).

Pertamina Patra Niaga not only focuses on product supply, but also on the impact that results from each energy solution we offer. This collaboration is a clear proof of our efforts to ensure a cleaner and more sustainable energy future, both for industry and the wider community," said Maya Kusmaya.

Maya Kusmaya added that the HVO produced at the Cilacap Green Refinery has also been recognized internationally through the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) certification and the initial distribution has been carried out to PT Sojitz for testing on the PT MHI Engine System's diesel generator.

"HVO has the potential to reduce carbon emissions by 85 percent and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 90 percent, making it an environmentally friendly energy solution and supporting the achievement of the Net Zero Emission target by 2060, in terms of product specifications, HVO can be directly used on diesel engines without modification, so it is hoped that the positive impact on the environment can be expanded and supports the clean energy transition, especially in the industrial sector," he said.

Apart from HVO, Pertamina Patra Niaga together with PT Sojitz Indonesia are also exploring various other potential renewable energy development, including the supply of raw materials such as Used Cooking Oil (UCO), Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) and carbon credit.

On the same occasion, the CEO of PT Sojitz Indonesia, Seiji Itagati, said that this collaboration was an important milestone in efforts to support the business goals of the two companies and provide new solutions for environmentally friendly energy in the future.

Sojitz Indonesia is committed to contributing significantly to carrying out business efforts in a sustainable manner. Collaboration with Pertamina Patra Niaga is an important step towards achieving carbon emission reduction in Indonesia," explained Itagati.

Meanwhile, the National Capacity and Quality Assurance of SKK Migas Rudi Kurniawan also expressed his appreciation for the cooperation between Pertamina Patra Niaga and PT Sojitz Indonesia.

Rudi added that the HVO product trial was also successfully carried out at one of Pertamina EP Field Cepu's Cooperation Contract Contractors (KKKS) as a form of domestic product development and is expected to be implemented in the future in various upstream oil and gas sectors.
