Prabowo Plans To Form A Housing Ministry, Minister Basuki: No Problem

There has been a discourse on the establishment of the Ministry of Housing in the era of the elected Presidential Government Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

Thus, the housing issue will be separated from the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR).

Responding to this, PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said, it doesn't matter with the plan. He considered that this plan could actually facilitate housing development to be more focused.

"It doesn't matter. I always say that the organization is only one vehicle to achieve a goal," said Basuki when met by reporters at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, September 9.

In addition, Basuki assessed that the separation of the Ministry of Housing was not the first time this had been done.

Before the Ministry of PUPR, the ministry that manages housing in the country also had time to stand alone.

"In the past, PU (Public Works) was also PU. Then it became PU and electricity, then the Regional Department of Settlement and Infrastructure (Kimpraswil) became the Department of Settlement and Regional Development (Kimbangwil)," he said.

According to Basuki, later organizational units at the Ministry of PUPR are currently like the Directorate General of Highways, the Directorate General of Human Settlements and Natural Resources can enter the Ministry of Housing.

"So, return the PU to its key off as a core business PU. So, Bina Marga, Cipta Karya and SDA. It's okay (separated) because it is PU as a construction service coach," he explained.

"All rules regarding construction will return. So, all construction rules are in PUPR by law. Others follow. So, I don't think it's a problem," added Basuki.
