Commitment To Use Renewable Energy, MSSGI Subsidiary Builds PLTS 1,032 KWp With Sembcorp

JAKARTA - MMS Group Indonesia (MSGI) through one of its business units Multi Harapan Utama (MHU) officially signed a lease agreement with PT Sembcorp Energy Indonesia, a subsidiary wholly owned by Sembcorp Industries Singapore (Sembcorp) to develop renewable energy by building a Solar Power Plant (PLTS).

The signing ceremony was attended by MMSGI CEO Sendy Greti, MHU Director Margareta, and President Director of Sembcorp Energi Indonesia Jen Tan on Wednesday, September 4, which took place at the CFX Tower Ballroom, Jakarta.

This strategic partnership marks a significant step for MMSGI's commitment and its business unit MHU to sustainable energy solutions in reducing carbon emissions. In this collaboration, Sembcorp will build a PLTS that uses 1,762 solar panels located at the port of MTK.

MMSGI's decision to partner with Sembcorp was driven by a common vision to promote sustainable energy practices. In addition, Sembcorp is known for its innovative solutions in the renewable energy sector from Wind Power Plants, PLTS to energy storage.

This Singaporean company has a proven track record in developing and managing large-scale renewable energy projects in ten countries focused in Asia with a total capacity of 14.4 GW. From this PLTS project, MMSGI has the potential to reduce CO2 emissions by 587 metric tons or equivalent to 66,005 gallons of gasoline or around 131 vehicles in one year.

MMS Group Indonesia CEO Sendy Greti said this project was the first step for MMSGI to reduce carbon emissions from company activities so that it could achieve Indonesia Net Zero Emissions (NZE) 2060 and have a positive impact on society and the environment.

"The commitment of MMS Group Indonesia to achieve net zero emissions is a strategic step that we consider very important, not only for the sustainability of the company's operations, but also for the future of our environment. The solar panels we use not only help in reducing carbon footprint, but are also a real example that businesses can thrive while maintaining environmental sustainability. We believe that this collaboration will bring us closer to achieving net-zero emissions goals and have a positive impact on society and the environment in Indonesia," he said, in a written statement, Friday, September 6.

Meanwhile, MHU President Director Margareta said the PLTS project was an important step for mining companies that were more environmentally friendly because they were able to reduce dependence on fossil energy sources.

"Our collaboration with Sembcorp to build solar power plants through the installation of solar panels is an important step in supporting our transition to renewable energy. The use of solar panels will significantly reduce our dependence on fossil energy sources, thereby reducing carbon emissions and environmental impacts resulting from our operations. In addition, this is part of our long-term commitment to sustainability," he said.

Both MMSGI and Sembcorp are committed to ensuring the success of this project through continuous monitoring and maintenance after previously conducting intensive study tests. This collaborative approach is carried out to mitigate technical challenges, such as variability of energy production due to weather conditions, to ensure optimal performance of solar power plants. It is planned that the PLTS project will start operating in the third quarter of 2025.
