Erick Thohir Reveals The Contents Of Jokowi's Meeting To Meet Vale Boss, Discuss What?

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) received a visit from Chairman of Vale Base Metal Global, Mark Cutifani at the State Palace today. The second meeting was revealed by SOE Minister Erick Thohir.

"I accompanied President Joko Widodo in a meeting with the Chairman of Vale Base Metal Global, Mark Cutifani," Erick wrote as quoted from his official Instagram @erickthohir, Thursday, September 5.

Erick, who participated in accompanying Jokowi, revealed that the meeting between the two discussed downstream nickel.

"Currently, PT Vale Indonesia is developing a strategic partnership for nickel downstream with Ford Motor, Volkswagen Group, as well as a number of other large companies, with total investment potential reaching 11 billion US dollars," he said.

Erick said Indonesia has the largest nickel reserves and resources in the world. He also ensured that Indonesia would enter the global supply chain. Including the electric vehicle battery ecosystem.

"We are determined to ensure that Indonesia can become one of the main players in the global nickel supply chain and the EV Battery ecosystem," he explained.

For your information, Vale Base Metal itself has long collaborated with Indonesia in the management of integrated nickel mines through PT Vale Indonesia.

Vale Indonesia's ownership consists of 34 percent of the shares owned by SOEs, 33 percent by Vale Canada Limited, 12 percent by Sumitomo Metal Mining, and 21 percent by the public.
