JAKARTA - The government is pursuing the target of fulfilling access to drinking water by 100 percent for the community.

This is one of the infrastructure development programs in the residential sector of the era of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) administration.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Endra S. Atmawidjaja said 92 percent of the public had used proper drinking water.

Moreover, achieving access to drinking water deserves to be one of the global commitments through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

"So, I think from the drinking water side the target of 100 percent for access to drinking water is appropriate, we can fulfill it in the near future," Endra said in an online Webinar 10 Years of Infrastructure Development, quoted Tuesday, September 3.

After achieving access to drinking water properly, the next target is to fulfill safe drinking water. As will be implemented in the capital city of Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan, namely that tap water can be directly drunk.

"This, right, is the prerequisite for a developed country. If we have the opportunity to visit other countries in the world, the water can be directly drunk from the tap. Well, we haven't," he said.

Thus, said Endra, although the Jokowi government has built a lot of infrastructure, Indonesia has not yet touched the level like developed countries.

"So, that's what we mean that we build a lot, but we still do a lot of transformation in the infrastructure sector and we really need it to go to Indonesia Gold," he added.
