BPS: Foreign Tourist Visit Reaches 7.75 Million In July 2024

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that the total number of foreign tourist visits (tourists) from January to July 2024 continued to increase.

Deputy for Distribution and Services of BPS Pudji Ismartini said that cumulatively the total number of foreign tourist visits reached 7.75 million visits, an increase of 20.7 percent compared to the same period in 2023 of 6.42 million visits.

"The cumulative total number of foreign tourist visits is the highest since 2020," said Pudji in the BPS Release, Monday, September 2.

Pudji said that the total number of foreign tourist visits in the period January to July 2020 was recorded at 3.28 million visits and in 2021 it decreased to 858,564 visits.

Meanwhile, in 2022, the number of foreign tourist visits will increase in the January to July 2024 period to 2.12 million visits and continue to increase in 2023 to reach 6.42 million visits.

Meanwhile, in July 2024, foreign tourists visited through the main entrance as many as 1,15 million visits, while through the border entrance there were 157,819 visits.

"Thus, the total number of foreign tourist visits is 1.3 million, an increase of 9.42 percent on a mtm basis and 16.91 percent yoy," he said.

Pudji said that based on nationality, the most foreign tourist visits in July 2024 came from Malaysia, Australia, and China. The number of Malaysian foreign tourists is 177,700 visits, Australia has 166,900 visits, and China has 126,100 visits.

Furthermore, foreign tourists from Singapore as many as 102,300 visits, Timor Leste as many as 67,000 visits, India as many as 59,000 visits, France as many as 47,000 visits, and South Korea as many as 46,000 visits.

However, foreign tourist visits from Malaysia in July 2024 actually experienced a decline of 3.26 percent compared to June 2024, while Australia and China increased by 15.94 percent and 28.38 percent, respectively.

"Tourists from Malaysia and China enter Indonesia the most through Soekarno-Hatta Airport, while foreign tourists from Australia enter the most through I Gusti Ngura Rai Airport. In terms of the average length of stay in July 2024 foreign tourists including border crossers spend about 8.10 nights in Indonesia," he concluded.
