IKN VVIP Airport Runway Project Constrained By Rain, Can Village Target Delay?

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) revealed the progress of the construction of the VVIP Airport runway or runway in the capital city of Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan.

Head of the IKN Infrastructure Development Task Force of the Ministry of PUPR, Danis H Sumadilaga, said that until now his party had worked on a runway of 1,375 meters (m) from the target set of 2,200 m.

Danis said that the completion of the 2,200 m target could be completed in September 2024.

"It has reached 1,375 meters. Right, we have a target of 2,200 (m). Well, hopefully in the first week of September it can be finished," said Danis when met at the PUPR Ministry office, Jakarta, Friday, August 30.

According to Danis, the completion of the VVIP Airport runway was hampered by heavy rains that are still happening today.

He said, if the rain continues, the 2,200 m airport runway completion will be completed on September 14, 2024.

However, he continued, if there is no rain at the airport IKN runway, it can be completed on September 2.

"It's still raining. If it doesn't rain on September 2 it's finished. If it rains, it will run out on September 14th. Between September 2 and 14th (it can be finished), depending on the amount of rainfall," concluded Danis.

Previously, the trial runway or runway of IKN VVIP Airport in East Kalimantan went smoothly and smoothly on Sunday, August 25, 2024.

The trial process for takeoff and landing at IKN Airport, East Kalimantan, was carried out using a King Air type 200 PK CAO calibration aircraft.

This trial was witnessed directly by the Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi together with the Minister of PUPR Basuki Hadimuljono.

"What we are doing now is a kind of proving flight because what is made is not only a runway, but its airways," said Minister of Transportation Budi in an official statement, Sunday, August 25.

For your information, the proving flight is an operational test process carried out to ensure flight readiness on new flight routes.

Budi said that VVIP IKN Airport had been designed so as not to have problems with airports in Balikpapan and Samarinda.

"Everything has been designed so as not to conflict with airports in Balikpapan and Samarinda. So when used at a dense frequency, there will be no conflict in the airspace," explained Budi.

"After this trial, a number of other assessments related to flight safety and security will be continued," he added.
