It's Completed, The Margatiga Dam That Jokowi Inaugurated Costs IDR 846 Billion

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Directorate General of Water Resources has completed the construction of the Margatiga Dam in East Lampung Regency, Lampung Province.

The Margatiga Dam itself began construction in 2017 and spent a budget of IDR 846 billion. The inundation area reaches 2,217.84 hectares (ha) and has a capacity of 42.31 million cubic meters.

Director General of Water Resources of the Ministry of PUPR Bob Arthur Lombgia said the Margatiga Dam is projected to increase the number of water storage and support national food barns in Lampung Province.

"Later on, the Margatiga Dam can be used by the community to meet agricultural needs, especially irrigation covering an area of 16,588 ha in Lampung Province, precisely in East Lampung and South Lampung Regencies," said Bob in a written statement, quoted Tuesday, August 27.

As for those who are already functional, there are 5,638 ha with an irrigation potential that can be flowed covering an area of 10,950 ha.

Bob added that the Margatiga Dam is also useful as a source of raw water with a capacity of 800 liters per second in East Lampung and South Lampung Regencies.

"As well as flood control covering an area of 4,227 ha (for) 8 sub-districts in East Lampung Regency," he said.

It is known that the water infrastructure was just inaugurated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Monday, August 26, 2024.

In his remarks, Jokowi said that Margatiga is the 44th dam he has inaugurated in the 10-year period of government of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet.

"We hope that the (Margatiga) Dam, which is the 44th dam that I have inaugurated in the last 10 years, can really function well for irrigation, raw water, electricity and flood reduction downstream of the dam. We hope that the productivity of farmers related to this dam can increase significantly," he said.
