JAKARTA - President Director of PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk Irfan Setiaputra opened his voice regarding the evaluation of the reduction in plane ticket prices which will be completed this month. He said the evaluation of ticket prices was a momentum that had been waiting for his party.

"There is a discourse on evaluating flight ticket rates into the momentum we have been waiting for," he told VOI, in Jakarta, Monday, August 26.

Irfan said that in principle, Garuda Indonesia strongly supports all forms of effort carried out by all parties who have an interest in determining aircraft ticket prices. Especially in collaborating together to review the amount of this ticket price.

"We hope that all parties involved consisting of airlines, stakeholders, regulators, and the public can feel the positive impact on the plan so that the ticket fee structure can be adjusted to the conditions and purchasing power of the community," he explained.

On the other hand, Irfan also thanked the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenkomarves) for encouraging accountability for the implementation of flight ticket rates which cannot be denied having a complex cost structure.

"We are certainly committed to being transparent and accountable for these steps," he said.

Irfan hopes that through the establishment of a ticket price reduction task force implemented by the government, various problems and challenges that affect ticket prices can be clearly known.

"So that getting a midpoint and solutions that in the future can contribute to creating a healthy aviation ecosystem both in terms of airlines as aviation providers and for the community as consumers of aviation services," he explained.

Previously, it was reported that the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan ensured that the process of decreasing aircraft ticket prices would be completed in August 2024.

"It's in the process. It's still working and I don't think so this month. This month the process should be (completed)," said Luhut in Jakarta, quoted on Tuesday, August 20.

For your information, the government has formed a Supervision Committee for National Aviation Transport Ticket Prices to evaluate the components of aircraft ticket fees.

Luhut explained that the committee had considered a number of factors to lower the price of aircraft tickets. One solution is to implement a multi-provider system to supply avtur fuel.

So far, the supply of avtur has been carried out by PT Pertamina (Persero) so that the price of avtur has become uncompetitive. Therefore, to prevent monopolistic practices, the government opens opportunities for other parties willing to supply avtur.

"Pertamina's Avtur, right now the price is starting to fall because we are open, not just monopolized by Pertamina anymore," he explained.

Even so, Luhut said that aviation fuel is not the only factor that causes the high price of airplane tickets. However, there are other factors.

"Yes, that's it, there are many factors. We're talking about which costs we can lower, such as spare parts and fuel prices," said Luhut.
