The Lampung Margatiga Dam Is Ready To Be Inaugurated By Jokowi On Monday Tomorrow

JAKARTA - The Margatiga Dam, directed by PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk, is ready to be inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on Monday, August 26.

For information, this dam is included in one of the National Strategic Projects (PSN) in Lampung and has been completed since 2022.

The dam, which began construction in 2017 with a budget of around Rp850 billion, is projected to increase the number of water storage.

Not only that, it is also estimated that it can support national food barns in the Lampung area.

"We are grateful that the Margatiga Dam will finally be inaugurated. According to Waskita's commitment, the construction of this dam will be completed on time," said Corporate Secretary Ermy Puspa Yunita in a statement to the media, Saturday, August 24.

He explained that the existence of dams is very much needed by the community. This is because it functions as an irrigation water supplier to agricultural land, raw water providers, and flood control.

The construction of the Margatiga Dam, he continued, was followed by the construction of an irrigation network.

"The continuous water supply from the dam, farmers who previously only planted once a year, can be two to three times," he explained.

It is said that the dam has a capacity of 42.31 million cubic meters (m3). Meanwhile, the inundation area is 2,217 Hectares (Ha), with a height of 22.5 meters.

In detail, the benefits for the irrigation of the Irrigation Region (DI) in Lampung province are 16,588 Ha, covering DI Jabung Kiri covering an area of 5,638 Ha and the potential in Jabung Kanan is 10,950 Ha. Then the raw water supply to be added penetrates 0.8 m3 per second for East Lampung Regency.

Ermy explained, the dam, which has a construction type of ruangan, has a peak length of 321.76 meters. While the peak width is seven meters long.

"With the peak length and width, the Margatiga Dam is also projected to be able to reduce flooding by 83.10 m3 per second for parts of Bandar Lampung and East Lampung," he said.

Another function of this dam, continued Ermy, is water conservation, water depletion that prevents salt water, and tourism potential. Please note, Waskita has worked on 83 PSN as of July 2024. A total of 36 of them began to be built during the leadership of SOE Minister Erick Thohir or since October 2019, for example the Musi Bridge project and the Jakarta Phase 1B (Velodrome-Manggarai) LRT project.
