Attending The AZEC, Airlangga Proposes Three Strategic Initiatives, Clean Energy To Transportation

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto proposed three strategic initiatives in the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) 2nd Ministerial Meeting in Jakarta, Wednesday, August 21.

Airlangga said the initiative proposed was in the form of an integrated clean energy system, the transportation sector, and energy efficiency for all sectors in order to realize net zero emissions (NZE).

"We are proposing three strategic initiatives that can be the focus to drive our transition to net zero emissions," said Airlangga in his presentation at the opening of the AZEC 2nd Ministerial Meeting at the St Regis Hotel Jakarta, Wednesday, August 21.

Furthermore, Airlangga explained, the first initiative was in the form of developing an integrated clean energy system. According to him, this step can be taken by increasing the connectivity of the power grid or regional electricity network. With this, he admits that he believes the resilience and flexibility of the clean energy system can increase.

At the same time, we will also invest in new technologies, such as hydrogen, ammonia, to take advantage of the abundant renewable resources in our region," Airlangga continued.

Then the second initiative is the transformation of the transportation sector with environmentally friendly fuels. This transformation, he said, needs to be accompanied by infrastructure development to support the transformation of the transportation sector as a whole from rural to urban areas.

"Third, by promoting energy efficiency across sectors," he said.

He continued, the initiative will include setting emission standards, providing incentives for improvement, and developing innovations in energy-efficient technology.

These three initiatives, he said, also represent the collaborative aspects of AZEC members and share innovations with each other.

For information, AZEC is part of the emission reduction initiative that was first initiated by Japanese Prime Minister at COP 26 in Glasgow and officially launched at the G20 Summit in Bali, November 14, 2022, by President Joko Widodo and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

Meanwhile, AZEC member countries include Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines Cambodia, Laos, Brunei, and Australia.
