Jokowi Hopes That The Energy Transition Must Be Run Carefully And Gradually

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo alias Jokowi said that the energy transition being carried out by Indonesia must be carried out carefully and in stages.

"We continue to consistently take part in the world's steps to make a careful and gradual energy transition," said Jokowi at the MPR/DPR/DPD RI Annual Session which was held at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday, August 16.

Jokowi hopes that the energy transition that wants to be realized is a just energy transition, which is affordable and easily accessible to the public.

Jokowi added that Indonesia does not want to lose momentum to form a green economy in the country. Because now the eyes of the world are starting to direct their future to a green economy.

"Indonesia also does not want to lose momentum because Indonesia has great potential in the green energy sector, which is around 3,600 GW, both from water energy, wind, sun, geothermal, sea waves, and bio energy," he said.

Previously, Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly or MPR Bambang Soesatyo alias Bamsoet said Indonesia had committed to suppressing greenhouse gas emissions by reducing the portion of fossil energy use and starting to shift to new and renewable energy.

"This energy transition is a big job, which requires very large investments, and will not be completed in just three to five years," he said at the MPR/DPR/DPD RI Annual Session which was held at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday, August 16.

Therefore, Bamsoet conveyed that the strategy of downstreaming the industry had provided positive results in the form of investment value in the mineral processing industry which had increased rapidly.

In addition, Bamsoet said the export value of nickel also grew very high, which made Indonesia the number one largest nickel producing country in the world.
