Jokowi Asks All Cities To Be Concepted, Can Be Examples Of California And High Point In The US

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has asked all regional heads to start planning the design and concept of the city.

This concept can be based on the potential of the city, such as the capital city of the archipelago (IKN) in East Kalimantan which is conceptualized as a forest city and a green city.

This directive was conveyed by the President when gathering governors, regents, mayors at the Garuda Palace, the capital city of Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan, today.

"I think in all provinces, regencies and cities, we can plan and conceptualize what city it wants to be," said Jokowi when giving directions quoted from the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, Tuesday, August 13.

Then, Jokowi gave an example of cities in parts of the world that his government concepts.

Like in California, the United States (US), there is a special city for golf. The city has a total of 37 golf courses, nothing else.

Likewise at High Point, North Carolina, United States, which is designed to be a furniture city.

"There is a High Point in North Carolina, it's only for furniture cities. Furniture, anywhere but furniture. We actually have great strength in Jepara (Central Java)," he said.

The Head of State also requested that the City of Jepara in Central Java be similarly concepted.

Even though in practice, said Jokowi, the construction of the city according to the design cannot be completed in one term of office of the regent or mayor.

But at least, he continued, the construction of the concept that starts now will be enjoyed in the future.

"The Regent of Jepara is there? You can conceptualize the design from the start, although it is not finished, maybe in one regent or two regent periods. But the planning must be there and in detail, it must be mature there," he said.

Furthermore, Jokowi said that every district and city should have a small lake or reservoir.

"In addition to providing beauty aesthetics, the existence of reservoirs will be able to reduce the hot temperature in a city," he added.
