JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) as well as Acting Head of the IKN Authority Basuki Hadimuljono reviewed the test of the autonomous train or Autonomous Rail Transit (ART) in the Central Government Core Area (KIPP) of the Archipelago Capital (KIPP IKN), East Kalimantan, Sunday, August 11.

Basuki said the ART has two series of trains and each of them has three carriages. One carriage can load 100 people.

Thus, the total passenger capacity is 300 people with a speed of up to 70 km/hour.

"ART will soon be operated to serve shuttles for guests and people who take part in the celebration of the 79th Indonesian Independence Day at IKN," Basuki said in a written statement quoted on Monday, August 12.

For the pick-up scheme, said Basuki, the government will prepare an electric bus to take guests to the ART pick-up stop. There are four stops that will be ready on August 15, 2024.

"The pick-up stop for the community is at the West Sumbu bus stop, the Nusantara Hotel stop, the Bank Indonesia bus stop and the Grande bus stop. It must be orderly to go up at all stops, not to go up from any place," he said.

According to Basuki, the test of the autonomous train will be carried out from August to December.

"This ART operation will use drivers, so that the train system can adjust the travel routes that are traversed at KIPP IKN," he added.

The ART operating on IKN is a mass transportation mode in the form of an electric-based train that does not require conventional rails. This train uses an automatic guide system that follows a special markings that have been installed on the road.
