JAKARTA - PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) won three prestigious awards at the Strategy into Performance Execution Award (SPEx2 Award), for the Company's success in running business and operational processes based on good sustainability and governance aspects.

The three awards won include The Best Executive Winner in Manufacturing Industry, The Best Company in Executive Sustainability & Governance in Manufacturing Industry, and Outstanding Achievement in Sustainability & Governance.

The award was handed over by the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Kontan, Titis Nurdiana to SVP Sustainability Office SIG, Daunan at The 9th Annual SPEx2 Award 2024 organized by GML Performance Consulting in collaboration with Kontan Media at the Four Seasons Hotel, Jakarta, on Wednesday, July 31.

SIG's Corporate Secretary, Vita Mahyreni, said that the sustainability aspect that aligns the focus of economic, social, and environmental protection activities is the key to realizing the Company's vision and simultaneously ensuring the sustainability of resources for future generations. Based on this commitment, the Company compiled the Sustainability Roadmap 2030 SIG which regulates strategies, indicators, sustainability targets, and the presence of the Sustainability Committee that oversees and oversees the Company's business to match the sustainability roadmap.

"This is a form of strong commitment from management because in the end all the initiatives we take will support the transition of GIS to the green industry, especially in the effort of GIS to present green cement and its derivative products, to support environmentally friendly and sustainable development," said Vita Mahreyni.

In the midst of global efforts to reduce the rate of climate change, GIS continues to increase the use of alternative fuels from industrial waste, biomass, and urban waste which are processed into refuse-derived fuel (RDF). The company also implements digitalization technology in the production process, for energy efficiency and production optimization.

GIS is also developing new renewable energy (EBT) through the use of solar panels and optimizing the conversion of hot gas energy from the cement production process to electrical energy (Waste Heat Recovery Power Generation). Until the end of the first semester of 2024, GIS managed to reduce the Intensity of Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 19.21 percent from the 2010 baseline.

Furthermore, SIG Corporate Secretary, Vita Mahreyni explained, the GIS initiative in the transition to the green industry supports current and future development needs. GIS also continues to focus on creating opportunities to encourage the use of green cement, one of which is in the IKN development project which carries the concept of sustainable and smart city through collaboration with PT Bina Karya (Persero) and share ownership in PT Karya Logistik Nusantara.

As a company providing leading building material solutions in Indonesia, GIS has green cement and a variety of derivative products that are produced environmentally friendly. Cement green SIG has lower carbon emissions of up to 38 percent, when compared to conventional cement.

GIS green cement products include cement multifunction, cement masonry for non-structural applications, bulk cement for various infrastructure development needs and soil stabilization.

Likewise, cement-derivative products such as porous concrete to maintain surface water absorption into the ground, rapidly dry concrete that allows road repairs quickly so that there is no need for road closures for hours, as well as aesthetic decorative concrete.

"In addition to low carbon, GIS products also have a high domestic content (TKDN), which is above 90 percent. All of these advantages make GIS products very relevant to be applied in development in Indonesia," said Vita Mahreyni.
