Market Heavy Aromatic Products, Pertamina Petrochemical Trading Strengthens Petrochemical Product Business Lines

JAKARTA - PT Pertamina Petrochemical Trading (Pertachem), a subsidiary of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Subholding Commercial & Trading PT Pertamina (Persero), has strengthened the petrochemical product business line by taking the opportunity to expand its business portfolio through collaboration with PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) in the development and marketing of new products, namely Heavy Aromatic.

Pertachem together with KPI and PT Trans-Pacific Petrochemical Indotama (TPPI), moved quickly to sell Heavy Aromatic petrochemical products with a volume of 31,000 barrels with destinations to Hazira Port in India, Friday, August 2.

Pertachem Oos Kosasih's President Director said that Pertachem is committed to always prioritizing collaboration and synergy between Pertamina Group, so that it has succeeded in commercializing heavy aromatic products.

"We focus on marketing activities and distribution of petrochemical products which will later spearhead Pertamina's petrochemical business in the future. Cumulatively in 2024, this synergy has succeeded in selling approximately 56 thousand barrels of Heavy Aromatic products. The first sale was carried out in June 2024," said Oos Kosasih in a written statement, Tuesday, August 6.

Seeing the increasing trend of petrocomia needs and high interest in heavy aromatic products, Pertachem is optimistic about marketing this product to domestic and foreign markets.

"Pertachem as marketing arm is ready to provide support in marketing and developing (new) products. Together we grow," said Oos Kosasih.

The same thing was conveyed by KPI's VP Commercial & Sales, Aji Danardono, who stated that the Heavy Aromatic product is clear evidence of Pertamina Group's collaboration to meet the needs of the petrochemical industry.

"To meet the trends and needs for petrochemical products that are predicted to continue to increase, the synergy of Pertamina Group is needed to continue to develop the domestic petrochemical industry," he said.

Heavy Aromatic products can be further processed into solvents (solubles) with a strong solvent power and a high evaporation process, making them very suitable for use in many industrial applications such as paint & paint coating, drilling chemistry, automotive, glue, adhesive and pesticides.

In addition to strengthening marketing and selling of Heavy Aromatic products, Pertachem continues to expand the development of other product marketing networks such as Polymer Products (Polypropylene, Polyethylene, Polystyrene, Masterbatch, Polyvinyl Chloride, and Polythylene Terephtalate, and Ethyl Vinyl Acetate), Aromatic Olefin Products (Paraxylene, Benzene, Propylene, Orthoxylene) and other products (Caldik Carbonate, Purified Tereptahlic Acid, and others).

Separately, Acting Secretary of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, Heppy Wulansari said Pertachem played an important role in supporting the growth of the petrochemical industry in Indonesia by ensuring the marketing of the products needed by various industrial sectors.

"As part of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga's Subholding Commercial & Trading, Pertachem is part of Pertamina's commitment to the petrochemical industry, as seen from its strategic initiative to strengthen the domestic supply chain," said Heppy.

Heppy explained, one example carried out by Pertachem is the distribution of Orthoxylene products from the TPPI refinery in Tuban, which contributes to reducing dependence on imports and strengthening the domestic industrial base.

This step is in line with the government's efforts to increase domestic production capacity and support economic growth.

The Pertamina Group continues to innovate by developing new products through the crude-to-chemical downstream program. This program aims to convert crude oil into high-quality petrochemical products, support industrial sustainability and achieve Net Zero Emission 2060 targets. This approach also reflects Pertamina's commitment to Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) principles and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)," concluded Heppy.
