OJK Has Blocked 6,000 Accounts Affiliated With Online Gambling

JAKARTA - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) said it had blocked around 6,000 accounts affiliated with online gambling activities (online gambling/judol).

Chief Executive of Financial Services Business Behavior Supervisory, Education and Consumer Protection OJK Frederica Widyasari Dewi said the move was OJK's commitment to participate in eradicating online gambling in Indonesia.

"We have closed about 6,000 accounts which later became a place for transactions, both shelters and beneficial owners (online gambling)," said Friderica or who is familiarly called Kiki during the 2024 SNLIK press conference in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Friday, August 2.

Kiki said that in the future OJK will limit the space for the perpetrators through the identification and blocking of accounts used for online gambling practices. One of the things that is done is through Customer Identification Files (CIF).

"We want to provide a deterrent effect, limit the space for movement, if possible, we can't move at all. We continue to work together with Kominfo to close the account used," he explained.

He conveyed that the OJK would form a team of anti-terror centers or Anti-Scam Centers to increase public protection against online fraud, including online gambling.

When inaugurated, the Anti-Scam Center is expected to detect various bank accounts that are misused for illegal activities, one of which is online gambling, both as a holding account and a final beneficiary.

Kiki said that in other countries, the formation of the Anti-Scam Center team has been carried out a lot. He gave an example of Singapore, which had already formed an Anti-Scam Center to protect the public from various types of online fraud.

The Anti-Scam Center is the result of the initiative of 16 ministries/agencies (K/L) that have received support from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

"Hopefully the community's losses can be prevented, or at least reduced. We are making various efforts that of course need the support of all parties so that this can protect our society," said Kiki.
