RI Will Have An Electric Vehicle Battery Research Center In Morowali

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan revealed that the government will soon build an electric vehicle (EV) battery research center in Morowali, Central Sulawesi.

Luhut said that previously Indonesia had also emphasized its commitment to become a leader in the industrialization of electric vehicles.

Later, he said, this research center will also collaborate with researchers from China.

"So we will have our own research center. We want to create a larger research center in Morowali. So with this put together, we can invite all leading institutions to become part of this research center in Morowali," said Luhut in his remarks at the Indonesia Battery Summit agenda. 2024, Monday, July 29.

Furthermore, Luhut also said that Indonesia has built a recycling industry in Morowali that can recycle and extract 99.5 percent of nickel from used motorcycle and car batteries.

"So in my opinion, this is a very important part of the green industry. So Indonesia wants, from this research center, to surpass our own industry," he said.

For the development of this research center, said Luhut, Indonesia has asked leading universities in Indonesia to participate in this study and send 42 student representatives to study and conduct research in China.

Not only that, Indonesia also actively invites several researchers from China to conduct direct research in Morowali

"So this is in my opinion, a breakthrough that will be made by the Indonesian government," concluded Luhut.
