There Have Been 300 Golden Visa Fans, Jokowi: I Was Surprised By A Lot

JAKARTA - The government officially launched Golden Visa today. The hope is that many foreign nationals or foreigners will invest in Indonesia.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that so far there have been 300 foreigners who have received Golden Visa.

He admitted that the amount was based on a statement made by the Director General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Silmy Karim.

"Until today, I have asked the Director General of Immigration (Silmy Karim) who has registered 300 people. I am also surprised that there are a lot of people," Jokowi said at a press conference for the launch of Golden Visa at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Jakarta, Thursday, July 25.

According to Jokowi, this Golden Visa will make it easier for foreigners who want to invest in the country. He also targets as many investors as possible in the future. "(Target) as much as possible," he said.

Even so, Jokowi requested that the relevant ministries be able to conduct stricter selections for investors who want to get the Golden Visa. This is done as an effort to anticipate prevent unauthorized people from entering Indonesia.

"Earlier I said that everything must be selected as strictly as possible. I emphasize that people who do not benefit our country enter. No. We must be selected as strictly as possible," said Jokowi.

For your information, someone who invests USD 350,000 into a public company's stake, a savings account or government deposit/bond can stay for 5 years and someone who invests USD 700.000 can stay for 10 years.

A 5-year-old visa is also allowed for someone who sets up a company in Indonesia with a minimum investment of 2.5 million US dollars and 10 years for a minimum investment of 5 million US dollars.
