JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) admitted that he would start based in the capital city of Nusantara (IKN) if the basic infrastructure was ready.

This was conveyed by Jokowi at a press conference for the launch of Golden Visa at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Jakarta, Thursday, July 25.

"I will still see if the facilities are completed or not, ready or not," said Jokowi.

Jokowi said that the report he had just received until now was that clean water had entered IKN. "What was conveyed to me was that the water had entered," he said.

According to him, basic facilities at IKN are not only about water, but other infrastructure. He is worried that if the IKN development is carried out in a hurry, it will reduce the quality of the building.

"Everything is ready again, readyness at IKN. And we don't want to force it which will reduce the quality of the interior, quality of the building," said the Head of State.

He also emphasized that he is ready to have an office in IKN if all the basic facilities are available. "As long as it (the basic infrastructure) is really ready, yes, I will enter," he said.

Previously, the Head of the Presidential Secretariat of the Republic of Indonesia Heru Budi Hartono said President Jokowi had started his office at IKN on July 28, 2024.

"The plan is for the 28th (July) he will inaugurate the toll road and review (IKN). We together with the (Ministry of PUPR) and the Presidential Secretariat prepare all needs for the President based at IKN," said Heru Budi at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Antara, Wednesday, July 24.

Heru said the Palace was coordinating with the Ministry of PUPR to continue to prepare the complete infrastructure for the Presidential Office at IKN, including filling the furniture needs.

"(Procurement) tables, furniture, lights, chairs are all running," he said.

However, he did not explain whether President Jokowi would continue to have an office at IKN or would go back and forth to Jakarta in running the wheels of Indonesian government.
